Hi,

another MII product will be launched soon  . After we tested the chinese made submersible UV lights we found out that the result is not satisfying at all. The main reasons for the failure of these UV lights were the quartz tube which is of low quality and does not emmit the necessary light waves of 253,7 Nm in a sufficient amount. Also the light bulb seems not to be of good quality and we could not avoid algae growth when using these UV lights.

Therefore we looked for high quality components such as:

-Philips UV (PL-type) with 55Watt
-Ozone free quartz glass that is specially designed for UV applications emitting min. 87% of light waves in the 253,7Nm
spectrum (that's the frequency actually killing the algae)
-stainless steel cap with double sealing made from Viton (the highest quality seals available)
-Philips electrical unit (Balas)
-integrated counter for the operating hours (makes it easy to follow up when the bulb needs to be changed, usually after
8000-9000 hours)

The dia. of the UV is approx. 55 mm and the length (incl. the cap) is only 600mm (even with 55 Watt power).

The launching of the UV light will be at the KOI's festival on 30.05.2009. Ready stock will be available in July (we are waiting for shipment the quartz sleeves).

Hi Pak,

selling price will be 2,8 jt./pcs.

But we still try to cut down the costs. So far the Philips PL UV is imported from Germany and we try to get it locally (have to order). Also for the stainless cap we try to nego the price further....

Hi,

after a big hassle getting the glass tubes imported we finally got the product done and have stock available now. I also managed to get some cost reduction done (especially on the bulbs0. We also made some modifications to get a better quality. Here are the latest photos of the UV. 2 units have been running for a few weeks at my customers ponds and the result is excellent. I will try to post pictures of the ponds asap. For the time being here are some photos of the actual product. BTW, the launching price is 2,5jt. and KOI's members join a 10% discount :D

Pak Svenn,
I am now building a small pond, and most probably will need UV bulb, but have no idea on its sizing..would you please give me a clue on how to calculate the required power per cubic meter of water?
Thanks in advance.

Attar

Hi Pak,

the UV demand depends on a lot of factors. However, to give you an idea I usually calculate 2 Watt/cbm for shaded and semi-shaded ponds. For ponds that have a lot of exposure to the sun I recommend 4Watt/cbm. Anyway, this is just a general rule. Some ponds require more, some less.

Thanks a lot Pak Sven, another question related to the effect of UV exposure to the fish in case of over UV exposure due to wrong sizing of UV bulb power (for which the bulb is put into the fish pond directly / submersible type)?

Hi Pak,

the UV is submersed in the filter area and not in the pond. The best way is to put it in a pipe that goes to the pump chamber. Else it can be placed in the Vortex or settlement chamber. The range of the UV is only a few cm surrounding the lamp. There is no "overdosage".
