Yth Para anggota forum & Pakar2 koi sekalian :

salam kenal pak.
1. secara garis besar diusahakan vol filter 30% dari vol kolam. semakin besar semakin bagus, tapi semakin mahal
2. kedalaman air kolam idealnya minimal 1,5m. klo bapak bottom drainnya banyak tidak perlu terlalu miring/ curam dasarnya. klo 1 bottom drain dasarnya sebaiknya curam.
selamat mencoba

Hi Pak,

pak Doody already answered all your questions. However if space is a problem there is another (but expensive) solution. Regarding your point no. 3. you should consider that your flow rate of the pumps will drop significantly depending on the height of the new chambers. If the water is lifted 1 meter above the water the loss will be approx. 15%, at 1,5 meter it will be 25-30% already (for example initial flow 15000 l/h will be 12750 l/h at 1 meter and approx. 10500 l/h at 1,5 meter). You need to compensate the flow rate loss.

For the pond modification the alternative is:

-5 bottom drains (diameter?) into a 6 inch pipe, into a rotary drum filter. Space required for the drum filter 1 meter x 0,8 meter = 0,8 sqm.

-from the drum filter into a bio chamber 1,5 length x 1 depth (=1,5 sqm) x 1,5 height. Biochamber filled with Helix (Bioballs) in moving bed system
Space required 1,5 sqm.

-From the biochamber into a pump chamber 0,5 x 1,0 m x 1,5 m height and back to the pond under water level. That will create a bit of current and the waste will easily move to the bottom drains (and your koi have some exercise  )

Total space required for the filter = 2,8sqm (+/- 10% of the pond area) or 3000 liter (+/- 15% of the pond volume)

= no more maintenance and perfect water :D

salam kenal pak

a good plan is key. make sure a well plan design before start construction.

your key points:
(1) an effective bottom drain with dome, you will likely need 2 of them, I'll recommend a 4" or 6" pipe with a double drain system for ease of maintenance (i apply this system in my pond). if u like an auto flush system, you will need to put a pump
(2) control chamber, ideally 1 for each bottom drain, if space limited can use 1 for both bottom drain, min 60x60x60. as the name indicates, this chamber is to control water flow when maintaining the pond
(3) mechanical chamber, I'll recommend a static bead system using K1 media with vortex shape chamber, min dia 90cm with min 1.25m depth. ideally 1 mech. chamber for each control chamber
(4) bio chamber, I'll recommend a moving bead system using Helix media with vortex shape chamber, custom dia according to available space. can also use a long corridor shape chamber or any other chamber shape depending on space limitation.
(5) pump chamber. in your case, reserve a space for two tsurumi pumps. but if you are going to pump the water to your house 2nd floor, you may opt to use a more powerful pump. incorporate an automated water feed using "pelampung"
(6) trickle tower, design it flexibly to fit your environment. it's not a difficult system. try to incorporate an integrated foam skimmer in the design. again, this is not a difficult system

the above are only key points. without a technical drawing, the discussion will be useless.

hope you find the above useful. good luck

Hi Pak,

whatever the brand you choose, you would need a pump with min. 750W Power to overcome 6 meters height and maintain a flow of at least 12000 l/h. My estimation is that the additional power consumption will be min. 450 Watt = 324 KWh/month ( x 1.000 Rp./KWh = 324.000 Rp./month). If you accumulate that over the years you should consider re-designing your layout. That would save a lot of money :D
